Southern cape distribution agreement announced

27-08-2009
Leading perimeter security specialist, Betafence South Africa (Pty) Ltd is pleased to announce a new
distribution agreement between this company and IMPI WIRE, located in George. The announcement
was made at a special launch function held at IMPI WIRE on Thursday 20th August.
The distribution agreement gives exclusivity to IMPI WIRE to actively sell and distribute the Betafence
SA perimeter fencing products throughout the Overberg and Garden Route areas.
Betafence SA, based in Paarl, approached IMPI WIRE due to the successes the company has already
had for a number of years with supplying its products to the market. Furthermore important factors such
as location, expertise, experience and infrastructure also played a crucial role in deciding where to set
up a distribution point and IMPI WIRE has established itself firmly as the largest supplier in the area.
IMPI WIRE was formed in 1993 as a special supply only division of the fence-erecting company MP
Fencing. Such well known suppliers brands such as the Allens Group, Consolidated Wire Industries,
Rhino Plastics, Woodline and Gallagher Electric Fencing and already expressed confidence in the
supplier and this new venture would further add value to their brands. MP Fencing is a well know
company that has been specialising in the installation of security, industrial and domestic fencing since
1983 and has been committed to quality and value in the Garden Route for 27 years. Betafence SA is
now the newest addition to these leading brands and is proud to be represented by this prestigious
company.
Betafence SA has been supplying PVC and Polyester coated fencing systems to the local market for a
number of years. The company’s products are synonymous with quality and durability due to the
advanced coating technology formulated by the parent company Betafence NV in Belgium. The
company, which was founded in 1880, is today the global leader in the manufacture and supply of
fencing and associated products.
The distribution agreement will ensure that the range of locally manufactured Betafence high quality
PVC coated fencing systems is delivered to the local market at competitive rates. And as the company
rolls out its national footprint it also forms part of the company’s growth strategy.
Betafence SA recently moved to a new state-of-the-art factory in Paarl. “The implementation of our new
PVC facility as well as the scale of our operation necessitated that we relocate our plant to a new
- 2 -
bespoke facility in Paarl. This is an exciting time for our company and for manufacturing in South
Africa,” says Michael James, General Manager for Betafence SA.
The installation of the new PVC coating facility represents an R14million investment into the local South
African plant and has opened new markets in South Africa for the company.
The facility, which can coat two and a half tons per hour, is designed for high volumes and perfect
quality. The process is completely automated from preparation to final product ensuring that adhesion
of the PVC onto the steel is flawless. It took two and half years of research and development to adapt
the available PVC coating technology to accommodate fence panels– the first of its kind in the world. It
is also the largest coating line in the world and can accommodate 6m wide panels, twice the width of
other standard machines in Europe. This is a completely automated and high tech facility for PVC
coating and is not limited to fencing only but can accommodate anything made of steel that needs to be
coated.
Betafence has developed a superior PVC coating which is UV resistant and retains its gloss over long
periods of time, just some of the reasons that the success of the guarantees of the coating is realized
over periods as long as ten years. “All our coatings are guaranteed and due to the higher coating
thickness and its thermoplastic properties PVC coated products are better suited for very aggressive
environments,” says James.
The distribution agreement brings value to both companies through the stream-lining of the supply
chain. IMPI WIRE, who has 37 competent staff and a large fleet, are able to cater for all clients’ needs
from home owner to large contractors. “We are confident that we can supply our clients with informative
solutions considering security and aesthetics and competitive pricing,” says Paul Davison of IMPI
WIRE. The support, expertise and experience of Betafence SA in supplying large contracts and
developing bespoke solutions and CAD designs will assist in furthering an already strong and
recognised brand in the Garden Route.
The range of products for distribution will be available directly from IMPI WIRE as well as through the
following Garden Route Agri outlets: George, Mosselbay, Plettenberg Bay, Oudtshoorn and Knysna.
These stores form the first phase of the proposed roll-out across the Southern Cape region. This will
also give the agricultural market better access to the fencing products with IMPI WIRE providing the
necessary support and assistance to these outlets.
